Biography
Laurensius Steven is an acclaimed Indonesian composer recognized for his versatile musical talent. His career began in the pop music scene as a member of The Dong Feng Band (Indonesia’s first Mandarin pop band), followed by his role as keyboardist and composer for the progressive rock group Zabrix. Over the years, he has also established himself as a sought-after session musician for various bands.
Steven’s formal musical education includes classical piano training under Mrs. Sulistiani at Yamaha and private jazz piano studies with Mr. Arya. A pivotal moment in his artistic journey occurred in 1990 when he joined the youth band Exsofer Gland, during which he composed numerous musical drama theme songs for local churches. This period served as a foundation for his growth, leading to the formation of Zabrix. Between 1997 and 2001, Zabrix earned accolades across several local music competitions, culminating in a first-place victory at the Yamaha Asian Beat Competition—a milestone that solidified Steven’s career path.
Later transitioning into media composition, Steven collaborated extensively with prominent composers and mentors, mastering the art of screen scoring. To date, he has composed music for over 500 titles of television series, TV films, and various musical illustrations.
